Overview

Change your Microsoft 365 password to keep your account secure.

Issue

Randolph Macon utilizes Microsoft's Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) system to allow users to reset their passwords if they are forgotten. Users should set their authentication method(s) during initial account setup to ensure they are able to access the system and perform password reset.

Steps

  1. Access SSPR at ​https://aka.ms/sspr​​.
  2. To recover your account, begin by entering your user ID and the characters in the picture or audio and choose N​ext.
  3. Choose the first contact method we should use for verification and choose Next.
  4. You will receive an email, text or phone call containing a verification code.
  5. You may need to first need to enable cookies in your browser.
  6. Type the verification code from the email into the box, and then select Next.
  7. Type a password that meets the college's password standards listed below, confirm your new password, and then select ​Finish.
Password Standards
  • Password Complexity Requirements: 
    • The password cannot contain the user’s account name or parts of the user’s full name  
    • Be at least ten characters in length 
    • Do not include personal information that can be found on the internet (i.e. birthdate, address, etc.) 
    • Cannot be a “known” bad password that is easily guessed (i.e. Password23, Yellowjackets2023, etc.) 
    • Contain characters from three of the following four categories: 
      • Uppercase characters (A-Z)
      • Lowercase characters (a-z)
      • Numbers (0-9) 
      • Symbols (~, @, #, %,^, &, etc.) 
    • Cannot be the last three previous passwords. 
Additional Information

SSPR can be used only once in a 24-hour period. The Service Desk can reset your password for you if you run into issues.
